No matter how many matchmaking sites that you’ve used, and no matter how experienced you are, there are always going to be dates that go wrong. Maybe you met her on a horrible site like, or maybe you two just aren’t getting along. There are a few ways to get out of that date, and there are a few ways to try and piece it back together, too. Knowing all of these options can really end up helping you out, so make sure that you take our advice with you, and try to apply it in every single way that you can.

Figure Out the Problem

It should go without saying, but one of the best ways to figure out what to do on a date that’s going wrong is to…well…figure out the problem! There are a few things that can end up coming up as an issue during any date, and that means that you need to narrow it down and figure out what exactly is causing the friction or awkwardness between the two of you.

It might be a conversation issue, and that’s when it’s time to just switch the topic. It might be something that you accidentally said, and well, they aren’t going to be able to police your tongue all night on matchmaking sites, so it might just be a matter of apologizing. It also could be an issue of you and the girl you’re meeting up with not having enough chemistry, and if that’s the case, then the two of you might just not be meant to be. That’s okay, but you do need to be able to recognize that.

Before you throw in the towel courtesy of horrible sites like, you need to figure out if what you’re doing is the real issue here. Being able to pick out those issues can really help you out, and it can really end up fixing a simple problem that the two of you might laugh at later. Whatever the issue is, you’ll at least be able to resolve the night in one of two ways–fixing it, or moving on and dating someone else later on. We can definitely help you with either of those, so make sure that you read on.

The Age-Old Topic Switch

No one said that meeting women on matchmaking sites would always be easy, and sometimes, that can come down to the topics of conversation that the two of you are gravitating towards. You might not even realize that the two of you have slowly gravitated to the topic of religion, and it’s just gotten plain awkward. That can really end up putting a damper on your evening, so you do need to make sure that you take the time to figure out if that’s what’s doing it, and that’s what’s ultimately killing your date with her.

If that’s the issue, then it’s time to just let the conversation die, and try to move onto something else. This might be easier said than done, but ultimately, you can try to steer her onto something else. You can easily move from politics to a movie that’s somehow related, and from there, about an actor. This is call diversion, and trust us, it really does work. The more that you can do this and work this into your skill set with dates, the more likely you’re going to be able to salvage a really otherwise awful conversation turning into a bad evening.

If It’s Chemistry, Well…

The sad thing is, you’ll occasionally meet someone that seems great online, but that you just don’t even come close to having any chemistry with in real life. This can really end up turning you off for the entire evening, and you might find yourself wondering how you’re ever going to end up getting past that. There are a few reasons for this, of course. Maybe she’s just awkward and still closed up in her shell. If that’s the case, then you might just need to get her to relax, and that can be done with a few jokes, or talking about her for a little bit.

If that still doesn’t do it and the two of you are still just jiving on completely different planes, that’s an issue. You need to realize that the two of you are probably not meant to be…and that means that you might just end up needing to cut the date short in general. If she’s not having a good time and not really contributing to any of the conversations that you’re bringing up, it’s probably just time to realize that you two aren’t going to be able to make this work.

Cutting it Short

There’s an art to cutting a failing date short, and it all comes down to being a gentleman. With any luck, you aren’t going to have to do this sort of thing in the future, but you do need to make sure that you’re capable of it should your date just end up turning into a disaster area. There’s honestly no reason for you to not be able to do this in a smooth, seamless manner, especially when you remember the cardinal rule: be polite and be a nice guy no matter what happens with her along the way.

If she’s just not clicking with you, tell her that you’re sorry, but you don’t think this is going to work out. You can still keep having dinner with her if she wants to be pleasant, but after that, shake her hand and leave. There’s no reason for you to even text her the next day if this is the case. You can just tell her that you really weren’t feeling it and that you think you’re better suited for other people. That’s it. That’s the end of it. If she starts causing a scene, just walk away and don’t get involved.

Thanks, But No Thanks

Sometimes, she might not realize that it’s extremely awkward on your side of things. Maybe she thinks that the evening actually went amazing well when it really just didn’t do it for you. If you end up getting a text from her the next day, you just need to be honest with her. Tell her that it just didn’t do it for you, and that you’re really not interested. You don’t have to be rude about it, but you do need to be polite and firm. This will usually be enough to get the message across to her.

If she still can’t take the hint, don’t bother responding. You can just block her online, and move on from it. Delete her texts and don’t give her any fuel for the fire. If you can go off of these guidelines, you’ll really be able to effectively take her out of the equation for the future, and put an end to that crappy date for the rest of the time. That’s exactly what you should be doing, after all, so make sure that you keep this sort of thing in mind if your date with a woman just ends up crashing and burning on you. It does happen, after all!
